Why Hazelton, and who to talk to about doing business here.

An angler in the Skeena River below autumn cottonwoods and snow covered peaks

Hazelton is one of the oldest settlements in northern British Columbia, dating back to 1866. It was the original gateway to the Omineca Gold Rush and keeps that history alive today.

The area’s history goes back thousands of years and is shared at the world famous ‘Ksan Historical Village and Museum on the Skeena River, a cultural centre dedicated to Gitxsan culture and history.

Hazelton is also a hub for steelhead fishing. The nearby Kispiox River is known around the world for its steelhead, and anglers come every fall hoping to catch the next big one.

About 300 people live in the Village and more than 6,000 live in the surrounding area. Hazelton sits where the Bulkley and Skeena Rivers meet. Coast Mountain College has a campus in the Hazeltons offering business, health, arts and trades programs.
