Home owner grants are now claimed online with the Province of BC, not through the Village. Apply for your home owner grant.
How property taxes work
Property taxes are based on the assessed value of your property and the tax rate set by Council. BC Assessment sets the assessed value. Council sets the tax rates each year in a tax rate bylaw, after adopting the five year financial plan.
Your tax bill includes more than Village taxes. The Village also collects taxes for the school district, the Regional District, the Regional Hospital District, police and others, then passes that money on. In some cases almost half of a property tax bill goes to these other agencies.
Owner names, mailing addresses and legal descriptions on your tax notice come from the Land Title and Survey Authority and BC Assessment. If something is wrong, contact them directly.
